eXp Realty Review: What it’s like working at eXp

Andy Griesinger // (443) 299-8946 // andy@andyre.com

Should I move to eXp Realty? Is eXp Realty a good company to work for? Can I make money at eXp? Let’s find out in today’s honest eXp Realty Review.

Hi, I’m Andy Griesinger, and I’ve been working in the Charlotte real estate market since 2014. I love this city and am proud to call it home.

Several years ago I made the decision to move over to eXp Realty, and it’s been one of the best decisions of my career. Today I want to share an honest review of eXp Realty including the pros and cons of working for this brokerage. Plus I’ll share a success story from another Charlotte Realtor who found success with eXp.

Why I switched to eXP Realty

First let me explain why I decided to make the switch to eXp so that you can see if my reasons align with what you’re looking for in a brokerage.

#1 – Direct access to high-producing agents.

Seven of the top ten teams at eXp Realty are affiliated with the Fast Forward Movement, and I decided to not only move to eXp but also affiliate with this group. Through this group, I’m now able to network and mastermind with some of the top Realtors in the country who are doing hundreds of millions of dollars in sales each year.

#2 – I wanted to focus on social media.

Publishing videos about Charlotte and engaging with my community on social media has been pivotal to growing my real estate firm in Charlotte. Learning from folks like Kyle Whissel, who started the Fast Forward Movement and also focuses on creating video content, and other Realtors who value what videos can do for their business, has been invaluable to growing my own channels (which by the way you can subscribe to on YouTube and Instagram).

#3 – Masterminding with other top producers.

eXp is a very collaborative firm and all of the agents want to see each other succeed. Switching to eXp gave me access to events like EXPCon where I’m able to network with the country’s top producing agents, talk about our biggest pain points and sturggles, and most importantly for me, learn new ways to improve my systems and processes.

#4 – eXp Realty’s Revenue Share & Equity Program

eXp’s revenue share program allows agents to receive a portion of commissions from agents they sponsor or refer to the company. The revenue share program tracks and pays on transactions up to seven tiers, which means you can build a separate income stream just by helping other agents in your network succeed. This is one of the reasons I feel eXp is such a collaborative firm. Our agents have incentive to help each other succeed.

Additionally, eXp agents are able to become shareholders in the company the more they sell. What other real estate company builds their agents into owners?

While these weren’t the primary reasons I joined eXP, the additional income streams are certainly a bonus.

#5 – eXp’s incredible onboarding experience

This came as a surprise to me after joining because I wasn’t aware of the extensive onboarding that eXp offers new agents. The team I aligned with hired a personal onbaording specialist who helped me get started and is now a direct line for me to anyone I need at eXp. Having this assitance made the transition to eXp much smoother and less stressful.

#6 – eXp’s respectful and collaborative culture

Like I mentioned earlier, eXp is a very collaborative firm where agents benefit from each others collective success. It’s also an extremely respectful environment, which isn’t always the case at brokerage firms.

This culture is evident from the top down, beginning with the CEO, Glenn Sanford, who is approachable and open to talking to anyone. This culture of respect and collaboration has made me excited to be an agent at eXp and support the firm that supports me.

Why you SHOULDN’T switch to eXp Realty

eXp Realty isn’t for everyone. There are a few instances of when eXp isn’t the right fit for an agent.

#1 – You prefer a traditional brokeage

eXp Realty is a virtual brokerage, which means there’s no office to schmooze with other agents or hang out and talk by the water cooler. I enjoyed going into the office at my old firm and shooting the breeze with other agents, but I realized as my business grew that going into the office was wasting my time and not helping me sell homes. That’s why I prefer a virtual environment.

Even though eXp Realty is virtual, the company has still managed to create a strong culture. I regularly collaborate with agents from different cities every day through group chats and weekly masterminds.

However if you prefer to go into an office each day and have face-to-face interactions with your managing broker and other agents, then eXp might not be the best environment for you.

#2 – You don’t want to build your own brand

eXp Realty would not be a good fit for you if you believe that the brokerage brand will help you sell more homes. The focus at eXp is instead on encouraging agents to build their own personal brands, which gives you the opportunity to establish yourself as a real estate professional and differentiate yourself from other agents.

However building your own brand also takes a lot of work. So if you’d prefer to build your real estate business by leveraging the brand and offices of your brokerage firm, then eXp might not be a fit.

#3 – You’re on the fence about switching brokerages

As I mentioned earlier, eXp provides an onboarding specialist to new agents to help ensure a seamless transition. They assist with paperwork, provide answers to your questions, and make sure your day-to-day business is not affected during the transition.

However an onboarding specialist would only be valuable to if you’re actually ready to get moving and shaking with eXp. If you’re unsure about wanting to switch brokerages, give it some more time until you feel comfortable. I’d also be happy to talk to you one-on-one and answer your questions about switching to eXp, as would other agents, so feel free to reach out.

Can I make money with eXp Realty?

I’m going to have to answer this question with an astounding YES!

Switching to eXp Realty has been one of the best decisions of my career, and I’ve sold more homes since making the switch than I ever have before. However I’m just one Realtor, and I’ve worked hard to build my brand through social media.

How are other agents doing at eXp?

To answer this question, I set down with another eXp agent named Kate Little who runs Laura & Kate Homes. She’s been with eXp for over a year now and spoke with me candidly about the ups and downs, the good, the bad, and the ugly of being at eXp Realty.

Kate’s been in business for six years, and part of Laura & Kate Homes for around two and a half years. She started her career at another local brokerage before switching to eXp.

Kate switched to eXp because she wanted to get ahead of the curve by involving her team with agents around the nation who were more tech-forward over the traditional brick-and-mortar brokerage she was previously with.

At first she was hesitant about eXp’s upline and sponsorship structure, but later found that it fostered a collaborative environment.

She said, “You don’t realize that your sponsorship is your home base. It turns into your brick and mortar because they’re the people that are the most willing to help you. They’re the most invested in your success.”

Switching to eXp challenged the systems and processes that Kate had previously been employing at her old firm.

“Coming from our previous brokerage, it was more of a traditional type thinking, where these are the 10 steps that will take you to being a successful real estate agent. And we have really expanded and realized that there are tons of ways to reach success, and that is something that has really stuck out with eXp.”

One other big thing Kate liked about switching to eXp is that it shifted her mindset from being just a real estate agent to being a business owner. She noted, “It’s not just how great of an agent can you be for your clients, but how can you build the longevity in your business and build out the best business you possibly can?”

She admits that her first impression about eXp may have been wrong.

“I think when I was first approached with joining eXp, it felt a little ‘recruit-y’ to me, and I think that connotation kind of stuck with eXp for a little while until I really dug deep into what eXp was all about and what things eXp could do for our business. My only regret is not coming on sooner.”

How can I help you get started with eXp Realty?
