Joining eXp Realty could be the absolute best decision of your career or the worst one, depending on what you’re looking for in a brokerage.

There are a lot of people who will tell you why their real estate firm is better than any other firm and pitch you on why you need to come join their firm. I’m not a fan of pitching people on things — that’s not my sales style.

Every firm is set up completely different, and they all have different nuances. So when you’re looking to change firms or join one for the first time as a new agent, you need to figure out which ones work best for you.

  • If you’re a solo agent, there are firms that will best suit your needs.
  • If you’re a brand new agent, there are firms that are going to be great for getting you going.
  • If you have a team and you produce at a high level, there are firms that will be great for your business.

It’s not up to me to pitch you on joining my firm; it’s up to you to decide if this firm is right for you.

I’ve been at eXp Realty for a year, and this may be a bit unconventional, but today I want to talk about the top three reasons why you should NOT join eXp.

Reason #1: You prefer the company culture of a traditional brokerage

You like going into the office, schmoozing with agents, and hanging out by the water cooler. You’re worried that those relationships may go away if you join a firm like eXp.

I loved going into the office at my old firm, shooting the breeze with other agents, and talking about what was going on in my business and life. But I realized that as my business grew, going into the office was wasting time and not helping me sell more homes.

eXp Realty has created a strong company culture despite being a virtual brokerage. I can collaborate with agents from different cities every day through group chats and weekly masterminds. There are various topics covered in these masterminds, allowing agents to share ideas, systems, and processes for their businesses. The company culture at eXp is focused on building sales businesses, and there’s a supportive community of agents who are eager to help each other grow.

Reason #2: You like to leverage the brokerages’ brand.

eXp Realty would not be a good fit for you if you believe that the company brand will help you sell more. At eXp, the focus is on putting the agent first and allowing them to build their own personal brand. Building your own brand gives you the opportunity to establish yourself as a real estate professional and differentiate yourself from others.

If a seller asks about eXp Realty, there are objection handlers to address their concerns and explain the benefits of working with a nearly 90,000-person tech-forward international brokerage with thousands of local agents. The ability to tap into a vast network of agents can provide more exposure for listings and attract more potential buyers.

Reason #3: You’re uncertain about making the switch.

Maybe you’re uneasy about the decision or find it daunting to move firms. Moving firms is a significant decision, and if you’re not ready or unsure, eXp Realty may not be the right fit for you. However, eXp Realty has an onboarding specialist who ensures a seamless transition. They assist with paperwork, provide answers to questions, and make sure your day-to-day business is not affected. Teams with hundreds of pending deals have successfully moved to eXp Realty, but it requires excitement and a willingness to embrace the change.

Is eXp Realty right for you?

eXp Realty is not for everyone, and that’s okay. It’s important to find a real estate firm that aligns with your needs and goals. After being at eXp Realty for a year, I continue to appreciate the opportunities it provides.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the YouTube or Instagram comments of this video. And remember, don’t let fear, ego, or uncertainty get in the way of potentially making a life-changing decision.
